Ghaziabad Station to Set Up Holding Area for Diwali Rush

To tackle the massive influx of passengers during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, Ghaziabad Railway Station is gearing up with a new crowd management strategy. A temporary holding area will be established on the city side of the station to ensure that the festive rush does not lead to dangerous overcrowding on platforms.
This facility is expected to be fully operational before the Diwali celebrations begin in 2026. The move aims to streamline the movement of commuters and provide a controlled environment for travelers waiting for their trains.
A Model for Nationwide Crowd Management
The decision to create this holding zone is part of a larger, nationwide initiative directed by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Following the successful implementation of a similar model at New Delhi station in 2024, the Ministry of Railways has ordered the creation of holding areas at 76 stations across the country.
By implementing this system, Indian Railways aims to prevent the chaotic situations often seen during peak festival seasons, ensuring a more organized transit experience for millions of passengers.
What to Expect Inside the Holding Area?
The temporary zone is designed with passenger comfort and information in mind. Key features of the holding area include:
- Real-time Updates: A dedicated loudspeaker system will keep travelers informed about train schedules and any delays.
- Essential Amenities: Provision for drinking water will be available for commuters.
- Controlled Access: To prevent platform congestion, passengers will only be directed from the holding area to their respective platforms based on real-time crowd conditions.
- Security Presence: Members of the RPF will be stationed within the zone to monitor movement and ensure passenger safety.
Enhanced Security and Special Trains
In addition to infrastructure changes, Indian Railways is scaling up operations to accommodate the festive demand. A significant number of special trains are being operated, particularly on routes connecting major metropolitan hubs to destinations in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
To ensure a safe journey, the RPF is also intensifying security measures across all stations and trains. Authorities are conducting awareness campaigns to remind passengers to avoid carrying hazardous or inflammable items, prioritizing the safety of all commuters during this high-traffic period.
