The Golden Chariot, India's premier luxury tourist train, is ready to roll again. Operated by IRCTC in collaboration with the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), the train is set to commence its 2026-27 season on October 24, 2026. Demand is already soaring, with the inaugural five-night, six-day 'Pride of Karnataka' journey completely booked by 75 guests from India and Spain.
Refurbished Cabins and High-Tech Comfort
Following extensive technical maintenance at the Mysuru workshop between May and August 2026, the train has emerged with a fresh, premium look. The 40 cabins, which accommodate up to 80 guests, have undergone significant refurbishments to enhance the passenger experience.
The upgraded interiors now feature plush linens, polished wooden finishes, and redesigned layouts that provide distinct living and sleeping areas. To ensure a seamless modern journey, the cabins are equipped with several high-tech amenities:
- Smart TVs and Wi-Fi streaming capabilities
- Unobtrusive CCTV systems for enhanced security
- Advanced fire alarm systems
Furthermore, the train ensures inclusivity by providing a dedicated cabin specifically designed for differently-abled travelers.
Gourmet Dining and Onboard Wellness
The onboard culinary experience has been elevated to world-class standards at the Ruchi and Nalapaka restaurants. Utilizing modernized kitchen equipment, such as induction systems and combi ovens, the culinary team is now able to offer specialized Jain and gluten-free dining options to cater to diverse dietary needs.
Beyond fine dining, passengers can unwind at the Madira lounge bar or rejuvenate at the Arogya Spa & Fitness Centre, making the journey as much about relaxation as it is about exploring heritage sites.
Itineraries, Pricing, and Exclusive Discounts
The 2026-27 schedule offers 13 total journeys categorized into three distinct itineraries:
- Pride of Karnataka: Seven trips featuring a five-night, six-day journey.
- Glimpses of Karnataka: Three specialized tours.
- Jewels of South: Three grand voyages.
Pricing for the 'Pride of Karnataka' itinerary ranges from ₹2.53 lakh to ₹4.87 lakh, while the 'Glimpses of Karnataka' tour is priced at ₹3,31,500 per person (excluding 5% GST). To incentivize travelers, a 20% discount is available on selected departures, and an additional 5% early-bird discount is offered for payments made by June 30, 2026.
A Flagship Vision for Karnataka Tourism
This relaunch is a major component of the state's tourism strategy. Karnataka Tourism Minister K. J. George stated that the initiative aims to provide world-class hospitality while showcasing the state's diverse heritage. Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has also directed officials to promote the Golden Chariot as a flagship premium tourism product, while Tourism Secretary V. Ram Prasath Manohar highlighted the focus on sustaining demand and strengthening marketing efforts.
