Severe weather conditions and torrential rainfall have caused massive disruptions to train operations on the Gonda-Basti railway section on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The downpour led to more than 40 trees collapsing onto the tracks, severely impacting the Lucknow division and affecting approximately 15 to 20 trains across both Up and Down lines.
Major Express Trains Facing Massive Delays
The weather-induced obstacles have caused significant scheduling shifts for several key services. Passengers traveling on these routes experienced prolonged wait times due to the debris on the tracks:
- Vaishali Express: Delayed by 6 hours and 5 minutes.
- Patliputra Express: Delayed by 5 hours and 7 minutes.
- Satyagraha Express: Delayed by 4 hours and 21 minutes.
- Kamakhya Weekly Express: Delayed by approximately 4 hours and 7 minutes.
Infrastructure Damage and OHE Failure
Beyond the fallen trees, the heavy rain has placed 63 districts in Uttar Pradesh at risk of flash floods, damaging local infrastructure. Specific operational hurdles were reported near Swaminarayan Chhapia station and the stretch between Govindnagar and Basti. The Gwalior-Barauni Express (11123) was held up for 56 minutes, while the
