Gonda-Gorakhpur Train Cancellations: 12 Trains Cancelled for Signaling Upgrades

Indian Railways has announced significant disruptions to train services on the Gorakhpur-Gonda rail section between October 10 and October 12, 2026. These changes are necessary to facilitate the commissioning of an Automatic Block Signal System, a major technical upgrade designed to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
The essential non-interlocking work will be carried out over an 18.82-kilometer stretch, impacting several key stations including Swami Narayan Chhapia, Maskanwa, Lakhpatnagar, and Mankapur. According to officials from the North Eastern Railway and East Central Railway, the work is critical for the modernization of the route.
Cancelled Passenger and MEMU Services
A total of 12 passenger and MEMU trains have been completely cancelled during this period. Passengers are advised to note the specific dates for the following services:
- 55093 Gorakhpur-Gonda Passenger: Cancelled on October 10.
- 55091 Gonda-Sitapur City Passenger: Cancelled on October 10 and 11.
- 55094 Gorakhpur-Gonda Passenger: Cancelled on October 11.
- 55092 Gonda-Sitapur City Passenger: Cancelled on October 12.
- 64220 Ayodhya Cantt-Mankapur MEMU: Cancelled on October 10.
- 64217 Mankapur-Ayodhya Cantt MEMU: Cancelled on October 10.
- 64223/64224 Mankapur-Ayodhya Dham-Mankapur MEMU: Cancelled on October 10.
- 65115/65116 Bhatni-Ayodhya Dham-Bhatni MEMU: Cancelled on October 10.
- 55071 and 55072 Nakaha Jungle-Nautanwa Passenger: Cancelled on October 10 and 11.
Express and Vande Bharat Diversions and Delays
The signaling upgrades will not only affect local services but also impact long-distance travel. Approximately 26 express and Vande Bharat services are expected to face route diversions.
Notable changes include:
- 12565 Bihar Sampark Kranti Express: The service from Darbhanga to Gonda will run via Gorakhpur-Barhni on October 10.
- 05038 Bandra Terminus-Barhni Weekly Unreserved Festival Special: This train will be short-terminated at Gonda instead of reaching Barhni on October 10 and 17.
- 15203 Barauni-Lucknow Junction Express: This service will face regulation (delays) of approximately 120 minutes on October 10.
