Gorakhpur: Bhopa Bazar Railway Overbridge to Open Nov 1
CM Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the 649-meter Bhopa Bazar Railway Overbridge in Gorakhpur on Nov 1, 2026, to ease traffic.

The Bhopa Bazar Railway Overbridge in Chauri Chaura, Gorakhpur, is set to transform local travel. Scheduled for inauguration by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on November 1, 2026, this massive infrastructure project promises to end years of traffic woes for the local population.
Ending Traffic Congestion at Gate 147B
Constructed at a cost of ₹59.44 crore, the 649-meter-long bridge is designed to alleviate the chronic congestion experienced at railway gate number 147B. This development is expected to provide immediate relief to approximately 50,000 residents who frequently deal with delays at this crossing.
The technical specifications of the bridge include:
- Total Length: 649 meters
- Key Feature: 60-meter-long steel bowstring girder spanning the tracks
- Execution: Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation
Enhanced Connectivity and Historical Tribute
Beyond easing local traffic, the bridge will significantly improve connectivity between Gorakhpur and Deoria. It will also provide better access to the National Highway 727A and the historic Chauri Chaura Shaheed Smarak.
In a unique blend of infrastructure and heritage, the bridge's design pays homage to the region's history. The pillars and walls are adorned with murals that depict the significant events of February 4, 1922, ensuring that the historical legacy of Chauri Chaura remains visible to all commuters.
Strategic Design and Regional Development
The project was not without its debates. Local traders had initially raised concerns regarding whether the bridge should follow an L-model or a Y-model design. Following confirmation from Union Minister of State Kamlesh Paswan, the Y-model was selected to ensure that the Sonbarsa area remains well-connected.
This bridge is a key component of a much larger ₹1,663-crore development package. This massive investment covers 88 different projects across Gorakhpur, focusing on:
- Urban infrastructure and road connectivity
- Flood protection and drainage
- Sewerage management
