11 Major Trains Diverted: Gorakhpur-Gonda Route Changes

Travelers planning to journey through the Gorakhpur-Gonda section must take note of significant changes to train operations. Indian Railways has announced a series of route diversions and cancellations necessitated by essential infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving safety and operational efficiency.
The adjustments are due to the implementation of a new automatic signaling system, which involves intensive non-interlocking work at several key stations. This critical project is scheduled to take place between October 8 and October 11.
Signaling Upgrades at Key Stations
To facilitate the installation of the new signaling technology, work will be carried out at the following stations:
- Swami Narayan Chhapia
- Maskanwa
- Lakhpatnagar
- Mankapur
Dr. Shivam Sharma, Public Relations Officer for North Central Railway, confirmed that the upgrades are vital for long-term track safety. However, the immediate impact on rail traffic will be substantial during the maintenance window.
Major Train Diversions and Cancellations
A total of 11 major express and superfast trains will be diverted via Kanpur Central station between October 8 and October 10. These diverted services connect several major hubs, including:
- Lokmanya Tilak Terminus
- Gorakhpur
- Darbhanga
- Delhi
- Anand Vihar
- Katihar
Beyond these primary diversions, the scale of the disruption is widespread. Reports indicate that up to 26 trains will undergo route changes, and 12 passenger services have been cancelled entirely to allow the work to proceed without interruption.
Affected Stations and Alternative Routes
Passengers should be aware that several trains will not make their scheduled stops at the following locations:
- Maskanwa
- Basti
- Khalilabad
- Mankapur
- Ayodhya Cantt
- Ayodhya Dham
To manage the flow of traffic, Indian Railways has designated several alternative routes. Some services will be rerouted via Gonda-Barhni-Gorakhpur or Mankapur-Gonda-Barabanki. Additionally, trains connecting Delhi and Bihar will be diverted through the Chhapra-Aunrihar-Varanasi-Banaras-Prayagraj route.
Railway officials strongly advise all passengers to verify the specific status and revised route of their trains before heading to the station to avoid any inconvenience caused by these scheduled changes.
