₹108 Cr Four-Lane Railway Overbridge Foundation Laid in Guntur
A major boost to regional connectivity has arrived with the laying of the foundation stone for a new four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) between Guntur and Nambur. This ₹108 crore project, fully funded by the Ministry of Railways, marks a significant milestone in the infrastructure development of the region.
Replacing Level Crossings for Smoother Travel
The massive 668-meter-long structure is designed to replace Level Crossing Gate No. 3 on the Guntur-Krishna Canal section. Situated near the Guntur City Inner Ring Road, the project involves 2.9 acres of land and will establish a direct connection between Bus Stand Road and Gorantla Village.
Once the project is complete, officials anticipate several transformative benefits for the local area:
- Elimination of persistent traffic bottlenecks.
- Reduction in fuel wastage caused by vehicle idling.
- Enhanced urban safety for commuters and pedestrians.
- Improved punctuality for trains operating on the route.
A Vision for Accident-Free Railways
The foundation ceremony was led by Shri V. Somanna, Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, alongside Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications. During the event, Minister Somanna emphasized the railway's commitment to safety.
"The elimination of level crossings remains a top priority for Indian Railways to achieve zero-accident targets."
He further highlighted that 74 railway stations across Andhra Pradesh are currently undergoing modernization as part of a broader ₹3,500 crore investment initiative.
Synergy in Infrastructure Development
Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar credited the rapid progress of this project to effective coordination between the Centre and the State, noting that such synergy is vital for fast-tracking connectivity in the Guntur region. The project, which falls under the jurisdiction of the South Coast Railway, saw its tender process successfully conclude in early September 2026.
