Gwalior-Sheopur Broadgauge Project: Completion deadline likely extended to March 2027

The Gwalior-Sheopur broad gauge conversion project is facing a potential delay of three months beyond its earlier schedule. While the previous target was set for December 2026, officials from the Jhansi Division have indicated that the work might now continue until March 2027. This project covers a 187 kilometer stretch and is a crucial development for the North Central Railway region.

Why is the Gwalior-Sheopur project facing delays?

Several technical factors have contributed to the timeline extension of this gauge conversion. The OHE line work remains incomplete in several sections between Kailaras and Sabalgarh. Additionally, the Gwalior yard is experiencing a shortage of space for accommodating extra coaches, which requires an extension of the OHE line within the yard itself. A proposal for these necessary modifications has been sent to the railway headquarters in Prayagraj, and the project is expected to pick up speed once approvals are finalized.
