Hakeempur Station: New ₹3.14 Cr Goods Shed Project Begins

Indian Railways has officially moved forward with a significant infrastructure upgrade by issuing tenders for the construction of a new goods shed at Hakeempur station. The project, estimated to cost approximately ₹3.14 crore, is designed to enhance the station's capacity for handling freight.

In addition to the new shed, the railway authority has outlined plans to integrate line number five into the common loop system. This technical integration is expected to streamline operations and improve the efficiency of freight movement within the station premises.

Strategic Freight Expansion

This initiative is part of a broader vision for regional development that began in April 2023. During the initial planning stages, the railway division proposed the development of new goods sheds at both Hakeempur and Agwanpur stations. The cumulative estimated cost for these combined facilities was approximately ₹8 crore, representing a strategic investment aimed at boosting the regional freight business.

The project follows comprehensive site evaluations conducted by specialized multi-departmental teams. These surveys included experts from the following sectors:

  • Commercial
  • Engineering
  • Operating
  • Electrical
  • Signal

Addressing Urban Traffic Challenges

A major motivation behind the relocation of freight operations to these specific sites is the need to mitigate traffic congestion. The railway's detailed assessments identified significant challenges regarding the entry of heavy goods vehicles into the city.

By establishing these new goods sheds at out-of-city locations like Hakeempur, the Indian Railways aims to move freight-related activities away from densely populated areas. This move is intended to resolve existing restrictions on goods vehicle entry within the city while simultaneously providing a more efficient hub for commercial logistics.
