Indian Railways has officially entered high gear to prepare for the monumental Ardh-Kumbh Mela, scheduled to transform Haridwar into a global spiritual hub from January 14 to April 20, 2027. As millions of devotees are expected to descend upon the holy city, the railway administration is prioritizing rapid infrastructure upgrades to ensure seamless travel and safety.
High-Level Inspections Underway
To ensure the station can withstand the massive influx of passengers, Vineeta Srivastava, the Moradabad Division Railway Manager (DRM), has been conducting rigorous on-site inspections. The focus is squarely on critical passenger-facing and operational areas at Haridwar Railway Station, including:
- Circulating areas for smoother passenger movement.
- Booking offices to handle increased ticket demand.
- Permanent holding areas for crowd management.
- Power cabins to ensure uninterrupted electrical supply.
Strict Deadlines Set by State Government
The urgency of these projects is driven by a directive from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The CM has mandated that all permanent infrastructure projects related to the event must be completed no later than October 2026. This timeline provides a crucial buffer before the festivities begin in early 2027.
Northern Railway General Manager Rajesh Kumar Pandey has also been closely monitoring these developments, stressing the necessity of providing comprehensive amenities to keep the pilgrim experience comfortable and efficient.

The Ardh-Kumbh Mela will feature 10 major bathing festivals. Following a consensus among the 13 Akharas, the most significant dates—known as Amrit Snan—are set for:
