For millions of travelers arriving by train, the journey to the holy ghats is about to get a major upgrade. As preparations for the Haridwar Kumbh 2027 intensify, the government is rolling out a massive plan to ensure that the movement of devotees from railway stations to sacred sites is seamless and safe.
Connecting Stations to Sacred Sites
To tackle the massive influx of people, a dedicated ₹6.5 million project has been announced to construct specialized pedestrian pathways. These routes are designed to link major roadways and railway stations directly to the city's most important religious landmarks, significantly reducing congestion and making navigation easier for everyone.
Managing a 10 Crore Pilgrim Surge
With an incredible 10 crore pilgrims expected to descend upon Haridwar, the scale of the operation is immense. To manage this crowd, the Uttarakhand government is focusing on several key infrastructure improvements:
- Improved Signage: Clearer directions to help pilgrims find their way through the city.
- Enhanced Connectivity: New pedestrian routes to prevent bottlenecks.

A Grand Scale Event
Although the 2027 event is technically an Ardh Kumbh, it is being organized with the grandeur and scale of a Purna Kumbh. The festivities are set to begin on January 14 with Makar Sankranti. A major highlight for devotees will be the Shahi Snans, which will feature the participation of all 13 Akharas.
Deadlines and Safety Measures
The government is working under a strict timeline, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ensuring that all permanent infrastructure projects are completed by October 2026. To ensure the well-being of the massive crowds, Mela Officer Sonika and District Magistrate Mayur Dikshit are coordinating comprehensive protocols, including:
