Hathras Traffic Relief: Northeast Railway Plans New Bridges at 3 Key Crossings
The Northeast Railway is moving to resolve the persistent traffic congestion in Hathras caused by frequent railway gate closures. Plans are underway to construct new overbridges or underpasses at three strategic crossings to provide much-needed relief to commuters.
Technical Inspection Underway
On Friday, September 25, 2026, a technical team from the Bareilly headquarters conducted an on-site inspection to assess the requirements for these upgrades. The project is being driven by the Gati Shakti unit, a specialized division of the Northeast Railway’s construction department, which is currently conducting an intensive technical survey.
Key Locations and Engineering Hurdles
The survey is specifically targeting three high-traffic areas:
- Bagla College Road
- Bijli Cotton Mill Tiraha
- Iglas Road
However, the mission faces significant obstacles. Preliminary findings from the technical surveyors indicate that the densely populated nature of these areas presents major logistical and geographical challenges. Due to severe space constraints, constructing standard-design overbridges at two of the three locations is expected to be highly difficult.
The Road Ahead: Feasibility and Tendering
The Gati Shakti unit is set to submit a final survey report to the Railway Board and regional headquarters. This report will be the deciding factor in whether the railway opts for:
- Overbridges
- Underpasses
- Specialized T-shaped bridges
Once the feasibility is established, the project will advance to the next stages, including the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR), formal budget allocation, and the commencement of the tendering process.
