Hindaun City Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal Commissioned in Rajasthan

The Ministry of Railways has officially announced the commissioning of the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal in Hindaun City, Rajasthan, on September 10, 2026. The facility began its operations on September 6, 2026, and serves as a major new freight transportation alternative for the Karauli region. This launch marks the third such terminal in the Kota Division following previous installations at Sundlak and Mandalgarh. Local traders and industries will benefit significantly as the facility streamlines rail-based goods movement and reduces logistics costs for sectors like cement, steel, power, and agriculture.

The newly commissioned facility operates under the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal policy introduced by the Ministry of Railways on December 15, 2021, which successfully fosters private investment in railway infrastructure. As of July 2026, this national logistics initiative has achieved 142 commissioned terminals across the country with a combined freight handling capacity of 224 million tonnes per annum. Furthermore, these operational terminals successfully handled 146 million tonnes of freight during the 2025-26 financial year.

Future Expansion Plans for Indian Railways

With approximately 10,000 crore rupees in private investment already mobilized, the Ministry of Railways continues to expand its freight terminal network rapidly. Officials have already granted in-principle approvals for 310 additional locations nationwide. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has previously outlined the government vision to increase the total number of Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals to over 500 within the next five years, significantly strengthening India cargo logistics capabilities.
