Hisar Traffic Relief: 6-Lane Overbridge Expansion to End Long Detours
The Haryana government is set to transform the transit landscape in Hisar with a massive infrastructure upgrade. The existing four-lane Railway Overbridge (ROB-77), located near Lakshmibai Chowk, is slated for a major expansion into a six-lane facility to tackle the city's growing transport needs.
A 50-Year Solution for Traffic Congestion
This strategic redevelopment aims to provide a long-term solution to the area's ongoing traffic congestion, with a design life intended to serve the region for the next 50 years. By increasing the capacity of the bridge, authorities hope to create a much smoother flow for commuters and commercial vehicles alike.
Key Features of the Redevelopment Plan
The project is not limited to just widening the road; it involves a comprehensive overhaul of the local transit points. The plan includes:
- Six-Lane Expansion: Upgrading the current four-lane ROB-77 to handle significantly higher traffic volumes.
- Three New Underpasses: The construction of three dedicated vehicle underpasses beneath the bridge to streamline local movement.
- Modernized Connectivity: A complete update to the transport network to support modern urban growth.
Eliminating the One-Kilometer Detour
One of the most significant benefits of this project will be the resolution of current navigational hurdles. At present, restricted height clearances in existing underpasses force buses and heavy-duty vehicles to take detours as long as one kilometer to bypass the area. The new development is specifically designed to rectify these constraints, allowing large vehicles to pass through without disruption.
Minister Ranbir Singh Gangwa, the Public Works and Public Health Engineering Minister, noted that this expansion is expected to act as a major catalyst for regional connectivity, industrial growth, and local trade investment.
Following directives issued by Minister Gangwa two months ago, high-level technical consultations are currently underway. Senior officials from both the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Railway department are working together to finalize the intricate technical details required to move the project forward.
