The upcoming trains will be 16-coach broad gauge trainsets featuring durable steel bodies to ensure passenger safety at high speeds. While the design speed is set at 220 kmph, the actual operational speed for regular service is expected to be around 200 kmph. These trainsets are a step above the current Vande Bharat models and represent a significant leap in indigenous railway technology.

Infrastructure updates and manufacturing timeline
BEML Limited has been awarded the contract by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai to design and build these high-speed sets. To support this advancement, a dedicated 64-kilometer high-speed test track is being constructed in Rajasthan, with nearly 58 kilometers already completed. The Railway Board expects the entire testing facility to be ready by March 2026, allowing RDSO to begin trials for these next-gen trains shortly after.
Apart from the hardware, the railway department is planning to use Artificial Intelligence for track monitoring and composite sleepers to improve track quality. These developments are part of a broader vision to launch Vande Bharat 4.0 by 2027, which could potentially reach speeds of 250 kmph on specific corridors like Ahmedabad-Mumbai.
