Regional Progress Across Key States
In Bihar and West Bengal, the long-awaited 51.632 km Kishanganj-Jalalgarh new rail line project, which remained pending for 17 years, is now moving toward implementation following a Gazette notification published on July 30, 2026. This development, supported by the advocacy of MP Pappu Yadav, initiates critical steps including land measurement, handling landowner objections, and formalizing compensation disbursements. Meanwhile, in Assam, tenders have been issued for the Gohpur-Numaligarh road-rail tunnel project, with a specific allocation of Rs 716.65 crore earmarked for land acquisition. This 15.79 km twin-tube project beneath the Brahmaputra River integrates essential railway infrastructure.In Telangana, state officials recently reviewed 21 outstanding railway issues, directing teams to finalize Detailed Project Reports to secure funding under the PM Gati Shakti initiative. These efforts are governed by the Railways Act, 1989, as amended in 2008, and the RFCTLARR Act, 2013, which provide the framework for compensation and dispute resolution.
