Indian Railways Opens Advance Booking for Return Travel on November 13
Indian Railways has officially announced that the advance reservation window for travel on November 13, 2026, will open on September 14, 2026, at 8:00 AM IST. This upcoming booking cycle is specifically designed to help passengers plan and secure their return journeys smoothly following the heavy Diwali and Chhath Puja festive period. Planning your return trip in advance is crucial to avoid last-minute rush and secure confirmed berths during peak holiday seasons. Passengers looking to book tickets can use the official IRCTC platform and should note important procedural guidelines put in place by the railways to ensure fair access and system stability.
Under the standard 60-day Advance Reservation Period (ARP), the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) facilitates daily general quota bookings starting right at 8:00 AM. To maintain system integrity and prevent unauthorized ticket hoarding, IRCTC has strictly restricted authorized ticket agents from participating in bookings during the initial 10-minute window, from 8:00 AM to 8:10 AM. Furthermore, all users are required to complete Aadhaar verification and provide a mandatory One Time Password (OTP) for carrying out online transactions safely.
Recent System Performance and Special Trains
The railway booking infrastructure recently demonstrated impressive operational capacity by processing a record-breaking 20,06,353 tickets on September 7, 2026, followed closely by 19,50,699 bookings on September 8, 2026. IRCTC officials report that approximately 89% of all reserved tickets are currently secured online. System performance has been substantially bolstered by a beta version of the IRCTC website introduced on July 15, 2026, alongside advanced anti-bot mechanisms that have successfully reduced suspicious traffic by 55% to 65%.
Passengers must remember that Tatkal ticket bookings remain entirely separate from the general quota, opening at 10:00 AM for AC classes and 11:00 AM for non-AC sleeper classes one day prior to the train's scheduled departure. Additionally, travellers should note that effective May 1, 2025, passengers holding waitlisted tickets are strictly prohibited from traveling in reserved AC or sleeper coaches. To effectively manage the massive surge in seasonal travel demand, Indian Railways has introduced several special trains including the Dibrugarh-Kolkata Festival Special (05932/05931), the Kanpur Central–Guwahati Special (04127/04128), and the Katihar–Amritsar Festival Special (05736/05735), all scheduled to operate through late November and early December 2026.
