Indian Railways Announces Widespread Train Cancellations and Diversions for Infrastructure Projects
Indian Railways has announced significant disruptions to train services across Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal throughout September and October 2026. A total of 54 trains have been cancelled, with numerous others facing route diversions and schedule adjustments due to extensive infrastructure development and maintenance projects. Passengers travelling through these regions should prepare for delays and check their schedules in advance.
A 14-day mega block is currently underway from September 21 to October 4, 2026, in the Danapur and Sonpur divisions of the East Central Railway. This operation is primarily focused on the doubling of the Rajendra Pul bridge and improving overall connectivity. The work includes connecting a new bridge to the double line at Rajendra Pul station and main line connection activities between Dinkar Gram Simaria and Barauni stations.
Regional Impacts Across Zones
In the South Eastern Railway zone, developmental work at Birrajpur station is impacting services in Jharkhand from September 19 to 23, 2026. This has affected 20 passenger trains, with 16 fully cancelled and four trains experiencing curtailed routes or destinations. Affected services include MEMU and express trains connecting Tatanagar, Barkakana, Hatia, and Asansol. Additional maintenance work is also being conducted within the Adra and Chakradharpur divisions.Beyond these regions, Central Railway has scheduled adjustments from September 19 to October 4, 2026, for the Hadapsar-Ghorpadi line in Pune, impacting routes between Pune-Mumbai and Pune-Solapur. Furthermore, the West Central Railway is conducting third rail line connection work at the Bina station yard. Previous disruptions in September included track maintenance between Barddhaman and Talit on September 9, and cancellations due to flooding between Punpun and Parsa Bazar on the Patna-Gaya section on September 7.
