Indian Railways approves new train halts and revises schedules across major routes

Indian Railways has officially announced significant updates affecting train operations, including new halts for major services like the Vande Bharat Express, revised timetables at the New Delhi Railway Station, and upcoming infrastructure discussions for regional connectivity.

Key updates include:
- The Railway Board has approved a scheduled stop at Patliputra Junction for the Jogbani-Muzaffarpur-Danapur Vande Bharat Express.
- Extensive redevelopment work at New Delhi Railway Station has led to rescheduled timings for over half a dozen trains, including the Sampoorna Kranti Express, Vaishali Express, Prayagraj Express, and Tejas Rajdhani.
- The Poorva Express, Humsafar Express, and Taj Express will now divert to alternative Delhi terminals, with the 12279/12280 Taj Express officially operating out of Hazrat Nizamuddin Station.
- Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on September 3, 2026, to request express train halts at Pukhrayan Railway Station and two new railway underpasses.
- A CPI(M) delegation from Gomia submitted a 13-point demand letter on September 4, 2026, seeking new train stoppages and fresh express services connecting the Chandrapura-Gomia-Barkakana route to major cities.

Train Halts and Schedule Revisions

Passengers traveling through Northern India must take note of major operational changes. The Railway Board has officially approved the halting of three major trains, most notably adding a convenient stop at Patliputra Junction for the Jogbani-Muzaffarpur-Danapur Vande Bharat Express. This addition aims to improve local connectivity and passenger convenience.

At the same time, extensive redevelopment work at the New Delhi Railway Station has necessitated a major reorganization of the Delhi route timetable. Because of these infrastructure upgrades, the departure or arrival timings for over half a dozen crucial trains have been rescheduled. Affected services include the popular Sampoorna Kranti Express, Vaishali Express, Prayagraj Express, and Tejas Rajdhani.

Furthermore, to manage station congestion during the redevelopment phase, three key trains—the Poorva Express, Humsafar Express, and Taj Express—will be diverted to alternative stations in Delhi instead of terminating at New Delhi. Specifically, railway authorities confirmed that the 12279/12280 Taj Express will now operate out of Hazrat Nizamuddin Station.

Regional Infrastructure and Demands for Better Connectivity

In related developments, regional leaders are actively pushing for enhanced railway services. Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on September 3, 2026, to discuss regional infrastructure. Minister Sachan submitted a formal request for the development of the Bhognipur assembly constituency, specifically calling for express train halts at Pukhrayan Railway Station. This station falls under the Jhansi Division of the North Central Railway and has recently been upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He also requested the construction of two railway underpasses, and Minister Vaishnaw assured that appropriate action will be taken.

Separately, on September 4, 2026, a delegation from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Gomia block, met with Senior Divisional Operations Manager Mo Iqbal at the Dhanbad Rail Division office. The delegation submitted a 13-point demand letter seeking enhanced rail connectivity for the Gomia region. Their requests included new stoppages at Gomia station for the Kolkata-Ajmer, Kolkata-Ahmedabad, Dhanbad-Bhopal, and Dhanbad-Mumbai express trains. Additionally, they demanded the introduction of new express services connecting the Chandrapura-Gomia-Barkakana route directly to Patna, New Delhi, Vellore, Hatia, Deoghar, Jaipur, Indore, and Pune. Railway commuters are advised to check their updated train schedules before heading to the stations.
