16 Long-Distance Trains Cancelled Amid Winter Fog Alert

Indian Railways has officially announced the cancellation of 16 long-distance trains as a precautionary measure to manage winter fog train cancellations and ensure operational safety. These cancellations are scheduled to be in effect from December 2026 to March 2027, primarily due to the anticipated dense fog and adverse weather conditions across Northern India.
The decision is aimed at maintaining smooth rail traffic and enhancing safety during periods of extremely low visibility. This move is expected to significantly impact passenger travel across several states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and Jammu. Railway officials emphasized that the focus of these cancellations is to ensure efficiency for trains connecting major hubs, particularly in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Seasonal Disruptions and Route Changes
In addition to the 16 long-distance services, the Ajmer-Amritsar-Ajmer bi-weekly service has also been cancelled from December 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027, due to the seasonal fog. These adjustments are part of a broader effort to manage the challenges posed by winter weather on the rail network.
This seasonal measure follows several recent service adjustments. In October 2026, the Bhopal division cancelled 20 trains to facilitate essential yard remodeling at the Bina and Agasod stations. Furthermore, Northern Railway had previously dealt with the temporary cancellation of over 250 trains on October 9 and 10, 2026, following public demonstrations in Delhi, though those services were restored by October 11.
Special Trains to Manage Festive Travel
While many services are being suspended, the Railways is also taking steps to accommodate the heavy passenger load during the festive season. To manage the rush for Diwali and Chhath Puja, 11 special trains have been introduced.
A key highlight of these festive arrangements is a Vande Bharat special service operating between Patna and Delhi. This special service is scheduled to complete 16 round trips to assist commuters during the peak travel period.
