Indian Railways has successfully commissioned the Automatic Block Signalling system on the 20.11 km Nun Khar–Bhatpar Rani section to boost train safety and operational efficiency.

Modernizing Train Operations


This major infrastructure upgrade is designed to ensure smoother train transit and significantly enhance overall rail safety. The project involved the establishment of five auto huts equipped with advanced signaling and safety hardware. A major technical highlight of this rollout is the introduction of Electronic Interlocking based Dual VDU facilities at the stations along this route, replacing older legacy systems.

Enhanced Level Crossing Safety


Safety has also been improved for road users along the corridor. The manned level barrier gate at Bhatpar Rani has been successfully upgraded to an electrical lifting barrier gate integrated with LED signaling. Meanwhile, as part of the infrastructure rationalization for this route, the Nonapar Intermediate Block Signalling has been officially decommissioned.

Expanding Network Capacity


According to official ministry data, the expansion of Automatic Block Signalling is a critical component of the national strategy to upgrade signaling infrastructure. This system allows multiple trains to operate within a single block section, directly increasing line capacity and reducing delays. The transition away from legacy relay-based systems toward Electronic Interlocking highlights Indian Railways' ongoing commitment to leveraging modern technology for enhanced reliability and safety. As of February 2026, the national network has successfully implemented ABS across 6,625 route kilometers.
