Indian Railways extends four train services to Nepalganj Road in Uttar Pradesh
Passengers traveling through Uttar Pradesh can now benefit from improved rail connectivity as Indian Railways has officially extended four train services up to Nepalganj Road. This major development follows the recent inauguration of the upgraded rail section, promising smoother travel and better access to major urban centers for local residents and visitors alike.
On August 31, 2026, the Ministry of Railways officially inaugurated the upgraded 56.15-kilometer Nepalganj Road-Nanpara-Bahraich rail section. This project successfully transitioned the historic 140-year-old metre-gauge line into a modern Broad Gauge and electrified route. Completed at an approximate cost of ₹730 crore, the initiative significantly boosts rail connectivity across the aspirational district of Bahraich, directly benefiting stations including Risiya, Matera, Nanpara, Babaganj, and Nepalganj Road. Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated the section, noting that the project integrates the region into the broader national Broad Gauge network. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the ceremony at Nepalganj Road station alongside dignitaries, stating that the upgrade fulfills a decades-old infrastructure requirement for the region.
Train Service Extensions
As part of this massive infrastructure expansion, Indian Railways has extended four key train services to Nepalganj Road. These include the 14213/14214 Varanasi-Bahraich Express, the 15132/15131 Varanasi City-Gorakhpur Express, and two pairs of Gonda-Bahraich passenger trains identified as 75109/75110 and 75111/75112. These extensions successfully establish direct rail links from Nepalganj Road to major cities such as Gonda, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi. Officials highlight that this enhanced connectivity will greatly facilitate trade, tourism, and cultural exchange, particularly benefiting residents living near the border of neighboring Nepal.
Support Amid Local Disasters
While the inauguration marks a historic milestone for regional infrastructure, the ceremony was kept subdued due to recent flash floods affecting Nepal. Both Minister Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Adityanath expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims of the disaster. Furthermore, the Ministry of Railways confirmed that it is actively stepping up efforts to facilitate the safe movement of passengers impacted by the unfortunate floods.
