Indian Railways launches daily festive special trains connecting Maharashtra and Gorakhpur

Indian Railways is operating two pairs of daily special trains connecting Pune and Mumbai CSMT to Gorakhpur to manage the heavy passenger rush during the upcoming Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath festivals. These special services are designed to ease congestion and provide smoother travel for thousands of passengers heading home for the celebrations.

Key details of the festive special train services include:
Pune–Gorakhpur Special (Train No. 01415/01416) will operate from October 9, 2026, to November 21, 2026, from Pune, and from October 10, 2026, to November 22, 2026, from Gorakhpur, completing 44 total trips.
Mumbai CSMT–Gorakhpur Special (Train No. 01079/01080) will run from October 9, 2026, to November 20, 2026, from Mumbai CSMT, and from October 11, 2026, to November 22, 2026, from Gorakhpur, completing 43 total trips.
Scheduled timings include Train No. 01415 departing Pune at 6:50 AM, Train No. 01416 departing Gorakhpur at 5:30 PM, and Train No. 01079 departing Mumbai CSMT at 10:30 PM.
Bookings have been open since September 11, 2026, through the official IRCTC website and computerized reservation centers.

Route and Coach Details


The operation of these festive special trains is being overseen by Central Railway. Both services have been provided with scheduled halts at important junctions including Bhopal and Itarsi stations to ensure smooth transit via the Itarsi-Bhopal route.

To cater to different budgetary needs, the trains feature varied coach configurations. Passengers can choose from AC Second Class, AC Third Class, Sleeper, and General classes. Specific rake compositions include options such as 12 sleeper, 6 general, 4 AC III tier, and 2 SLR coaches, or alternatively 1 AC 2-tier, 5 AC 3-tier, 6 sleeper, 4 general second class, and 2 guard-cum-luggage vans. Travellers are advised to secure their tickets in advance through IRCTC to avoid last-minute rush.
