Indian Railways Launches RailOne App: All-in-One Travel Solution

In a major move to digitize and simplify the passenger experience, the Indian Railways has officially launched the RailOne App. The application was unveiled by Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 1, 2025, during the 40th Foundation Day celebrations of the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) held in New Delhi.
Developed by CRIS, the RailOne App acts as a centralized hub, bringing together various essential services that were previously spread across different platforms. By integrating services from IRCTC Rail Connect, UTS on Mobile, Rail Madad, and e-catering, the railways aims to provide a seamless, single-window experience for every traveler.
A Comprehensive Suite of Passenger Services
The RailOne App is designed to handle almost every requirement a passenger might have during their journey. Through this unified platform, users can access several key features, including:
- Ticket Booking and Status: Quick booking of tickets and real-time PNR status updates.
- Live Train Tracking: Stay updated with the exact location of your train.
- Onboard Assistance: Identify your coach position easily and order food directly to your seat via integrated e-catering.
- Grievance Redressal: Access help and lodge complaints through the Rail Madad integration.
- Freight Inquiries: Users can also make inquiries regarding freight services.
To make transactions more convenient, the app features the 'R-Wallet', which provides a 3% discount on unreserved tickets. Furthermore, the app utilizes a Single Sign-On (SSO) system, allowing users to log in securely using mPIN or biometric authentication. To cater to India's diversity, the platform is available in multiple Indian languages.
Strict New Rules for Unreserved Tickets
With the launch of the new digital ecosystem, the Indian Railways has also introduced several operational mandates to ensure security and prevent misuse. Passengers using the app for unreserved tickets should be aware of the following regulations:
Starting July 15, 2026, all passengers booking unreserved tickets are required to carry a valid original photo identity document. Additionally, the railways have implemented a strict policy regarding digital tickets: digital unreserved tickets are only valid if they are displayed live within the app on the registered device. The use of screenshots, PDFs, or forwarded images will not be accepted by checking staff.
To book an unreserved ticket via the app, passengers must adhere to these conditions:
- The user must be outside the station premises.
- GPS must be enabled on the mobile device.
- The journey must commence within one hour of booking the ticket.
Updated Season Ticket Regulations
New regulations effective from September 9, 2026, have also brought changes to season ticket bookings. Registered users are now permitted to book season tickets for up to five additional passengers.
The validity of these tickets follows a specific timeline: the registered user's season ticket becomes valid on the day of issuance following geographical verification, while the tickets for the additional passengers become valid on the following day. To ensure authenticity, these tickets include a photograph and a QR code for quick verification by onboard railway staff.
