Indian Railways prepares comprehensive infrastructure for Simhastha 2028 in Ujjain
Indian Railways has unveiled extensive preparations for the upcoming Simhastha 2028 event to ensure seamless travel and safety for millions of pilgrims visiting Ujjain. Senior railway officials have reviewed the ongoing infrastructure and passenger amenity projects to guarantee a smooth experience during the grand religious gathering.
Key highlights of the massive preparations include:
- Operation of 100 to 125 special trains to manage the heavy influx of pilgrims.
- Deployment of AI-based surveillance cameras with facial recognition and suspicious activity monitoring.
- Development of a 20,000-square-meter holding area at Ujjain station, scheduled for completion by December 2027.
- Construction of a new station in Panwasa to significantly reduce passenger congestion.

Infrastructure and Safety Upgrades
To handle the massive crowd effectively, authorities have mandated separate routes for passenger arrival and departure at stations. Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar recently reviewed progress in Indore and emphasized the immediate acceleration of critical rail sections, including the Indore-Manmad, Indore-Khandwa, and Indore-Ujjain lines. Additionally, projects like the new Shastri Railway Overbridge and redesigned traffic management systems are currently under active consideration to ease road and rail congestion.
On-Site Inspections and Sanitation
Western Railway General Manager Ram Ashray Pandey conducted thorough site inspections and instructed officials to maintain high-quality standards within strict timelines. Ujjain Collector Roshan Kumar Singh is closely coordinating with railway authorities, alongside Ratlam Divisional Railway Manager Ashwini Kumar and Additional Divisional Railway Manager for Infrastructure Akshay Kumar, to ensure seamless passenger movement across all transit points.
Beyond connectivity and crowd control, the railways are actively addressing hygiene and sanitation concerns. Officials have confirmed that enhanced pest control measures will be implemented to combat rodent issues effectively, ensuring a clean environment for every traveler throughout the Simhastha 2028 period.
