The railway network has been steadily increasing its green energy footprint. As of December 2025, the total installation included 909 MW of solar power and 103 MW of wind power. To ensure long-term sustainability, the ministry has already tied up an additional 3,300 MW for future use.

Apart from solar plants, the railways are focusing on environmental conservation. During the 2025-26 period, Indian Railways planted 81.59 lakh trees to align with World Earth Day 2026.
