18,000 Indian Railways Special Trains & New Indore-Dahod Line
Indian Railways is operating 18,000 special trains for Diwali and Chhath while launching a historic new rail line in a tribal region.

To manage the massive festive surge, Indian Railways is operating 18,000 Indian Railways special trains and completing a historic new rail project. This dual initiative aims to enhance connectivity for underserved regions while handling the heavy passenger influx expected during the Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals.
A Historic Milestone: The Indore-Dahod Rail Line
In a major infrastructure breakthrough, the Indore-Dahod Rail Line Project has reached a significant milestone. This project is being hailed as a transformative 'Diwali gift' for local tribal communities, as it brings essential rail connectivity to a region that has remained without any railway access since India's independence.
The advancement of this line marks a historic step in regional development, ensuring that these tribal areas are finally integrated into the national transport network.
Managing the Diwali and Chhath Rush
Addressing the seasonal demand, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the national carrier is making massive preparations for the holiday period. To accommodate the surge of travelers, Indian Railways is operating approximately 18,000 additional special trains across the country to ensure passengers can reach their destinations during the Diwali and Chhath festivals.
High-Tech Safety and Crowd Management
To maintain order and ensure passenger safety amidst the heavy crowds, several advanced security and logistical measures have been deployed:
- AI-Based Surveillance: The installation of 700 AI-based cameras at various railway stations nationwide to enhance monitoring and security.
- Dedicated Holding Areas: The establishment of specialized holding areas at 20 major stations to facilitate orderly passenger movement and reduce congestion.
These measures are part of a comprehensive strategy to manage the increased passenger volume efficiently and safely throughout the festive season.
