Indian Railways Launches Special Trains For Dussehra And Diwali

Indian Railways has unveiled a comprehensive plan to operate 14 pairs of special trains to accommodate the significant surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja festivals. These services are scheduled to run primarily between October and November 2026, connecting key transit hubs including Delhi, Patna, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Darbhanga. In response to high demand for confirmed berths during the festive season, advance ticket booking for these special services has already commenced. Indian Railways is operating over 12000 special train trips across the country to enhance festive connectivity. Passengers looking to travel during this peak season can now plan their journeys more conveniently across high-demand routes.

The Northern Railway has specifically confirmed services on high-demand corridors such as New Delhi-Danapur, Ayodhya-Anand Vihar, and Varanasi-Anand Vihar. Notable inclusions feature the 04090/04089 New Delhi-Danapur Reserved Special Express and the 04072/04071 New Delhi-Supaul daily service, which will operate from October 1 through November 28, 2026. Furthermore, Eastern Railway has confirmed it will run 10 Puja special trains to manage passenger volume, while the Ambala division has introduced specific services from Chandigarh to Patna and Varanasi.

Passenger Facilities and Discounts

To facilitate smoother operations and manage crowds efficiently, approximately 30 stations in Bihar have been equipped with additional ticket counters and upgraded CCTV surveillance. Passengers are strongly encouraged to verify train schedules via the RailMadad 139 helpline or the official IRCTC portal before heading to the station. To incentivize travel and provide financial relief during the festive rush, a 20 percent discount on return tickets is available for bookings made within designated windows in October and November.
