Indian Railways is running over 350 special train services for Ganesh Utsav 2026 to manage the massive surge in festive travel toward the Konkan region and Goa. The festival concludes on September 25, 2026, and comprehensive rail services have been deployed to accommodate heavy passenger demand. Central Railway is spearheading the effort with 262 special train trips comprising 200 reserved and 62 unreserved services originating from Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. As of early September, reserved special trains have processed over 1.17 lakh bookings, with total festive bookings exceeding 1.5 lakh passengers by September 8, 2026. Key routes include 112 trips to Sawantwadi Road, 64 to Ratnagiri, and 24 to Madgaon.
Central Railway has scheduled four special services between Hazur Sahib Nanded and Sawantwadi Road, designated as
Train Nos. 07659 and 07660, operating between
September 12 and September 17, 2026. These trains feature a
24-coach configuration, including AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, Sleeper, and General Second Class accommodations. Furthermore, Western Railway is operating approximately
60 services, including weekly trains between Mumbai Central and Thokur starting
September 15, 2026, while daily services on the CSMT-Sawantwadi Road route began on
September 8 and 9.
To effectively manage station crowding, Indian Railways has deployed additional
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and ticket-checking staff, alongside establishing extra counters and holding areas at major hubs. Passengers are advised to
arrive 30 minutes before departure and are encouraged to use the Indian Railways Enquiry website or the
NTES app for real-time updates. Unreserved ticket bookings are conveniently available through the
UTS system. Complementing these rail operations, the Maharashtra government has declared a
toll exemption for vehicles transporting devotees to the Konkan region from
September 11 to September 27, 2026. This exemption covers major transit points including the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway (NH-48), the Mumbai-Goa Highway (NH-66), and the Atal Setu. Devotees may obtain
Ganeshotsav 2026 Konkan Darshan stickers from local police stations, traffic posts, and RTO offices to facilitate smooth travel.
