Indian Railways launches two special trains to Gaya for Pitru Paksha pilgrims

Indian Railways is operating two special train services to accommodate pilgrims traveling to Gaya in Bihar for the Pitru Paksha festival. This initiative aims to address the significant passenger waiting lists observed during the period of religious observance, which spans from September 27 to October 10, 2026. East Central Railway CPRO Saraswati Chandra confirmed the rollout of these services to help devotees complete their journey smoothly.

The special trains will operate between Rani Kamlapati station and Gaya, and between Jabalpur and Gaya, offering immense relief to travelers during the peak festive season. Scheduled stops include Prayagraj Chheoki, DDU, Anugrah Narayan Road, Dehri on Sone, Sasaram, Bhabua Road, Mirzapur, Satna, Maihar, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Pipariya, Itarsi, and Narmadapuram. Notably, the stop at Bhabua Road is specifically intended to benefit travelers from Kaimur.

Schedule for Rani Kamlapati Gaya Special

The Rani Kamlapati-Gaya Pitru Paksha Special (01661/01662) will depart Rani Kamlapati at 3:20 PM on September 27, October 2, and October 7, arriving in Gaya the following day at 2:30 PM. The return service (01662) will depart Gaya at 3:30 PM on September 30, October 5, and October 10, reaching Rani Kamlapati at 4:15 PM the next day.

Schedule for Jabalpur Gaya Special

The Jabalpur-Gaya Pitru Paksha Special (01701/01702) is scheduled to depart Jabalpur on September 29, October 4, and October 9. The return leg (01702) will depart Gaya at 3:30 PM on September 28, October 3, and October 8, arriving in Jabalpur at 8:10 AM the following day.

Coach Composition and Amenities

Each train consist will include between 22 and 24 coaches, featuring two AC 2-tier coaches, four AC 3-tier coaches, 12 sleeper class coaches, and four general coaches. This provides a comprehensive mix of air-conditioned and sleeper accommodations, ensuring a comfortable journey for pilgrims undertaking the holy ritual.
