Indian Railways launches extensive special train network for Raksha Bandhan 2026
Indian Railways is operating an extensive series of special trains to manage heavy passenger demand during the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival period. From August 22 to early September 2026, multiple railway zones are running dedicated services to alleviate congestion and address long waiting lists across major routes.
Key highlights of the Raksha Bandhan 2026 special train network:
- West Central Railway has initiated 47 special services covering routes like Kota-Delhi, Sogaria-Mathura, Sogaria-Jabalpur, Bhopal-Rewa, and Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin.
- Three pairs of special trains and one one-way service will operate between Bhopal and Rewa, with Train No. 02189 departing Bhopal on August 26 and 27, 2026.
- North Central Railway has added a two-minute stoppage at Tundla Junction for multiple weekly special trains including services 02275/02276, 04147/04148, and 04163.
- Additional key routes include Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin (01701/01702), Kota-Hazrat Nizamuddin (09803/09804), and Subedarganj-Shakurbasti.
- New Delhi-Kanpur Central services (02456/02455) and Anand Vihar Terminal-Kanpur Central (02458) will operate on various dates between August 28 and September 4, 2026.
Operational Updates and Stoppage Details
Senior DCM Saurabh Kataria confirmed the detailed scheduling for the central region, ensuring smooth connectivity for festival travelers. For trains passing through Tundla Junction, upward services from Subedarganj arrive at 02:20 AM, while downward trains from Shakurbasti arrive at 03:40 PM, as stated by Dr. Shivam Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway, Prayagraj.
The Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Special (01701) is scheduled for August 29 with its return service (01702) on August 30. The Kota-Hazrat Nizamuddin pairing (09803/09804) will run through late August, and the Subedarganj-Shakurbasti series is scheduled through August 31, 2026.
