Indian Railways announces special trains to manage passenger rush for Raksha Bandhan 2026

To assist passengers traveling home for the festive season, Indian Railways has officially announced a comprehensive plan to handle the surge in demand during Raksha Bandhan 2026. With the festival falling on August 28, the national transporter is rolling out new special services and increasing capacity across high-demand routes to ensure a smoother journey for commuters.
- Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin (01701/01702) special train introduced.
- Six additional special trains scheduled for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
- Increased connectivity for routes including Jaipur-Rewari, Kota-Durgapura, and Hisar-Hadapsar.
- Extra coaches to be attached to eight regular trains to boost berth availability.
Jabalpur to Hazrat Nizamuddin Special Service
The dedicated special train 01701 will depart from Jabalpur on August 29, 2026, at 8:20 p.m., reaching Hazrat Nizamuddin at 2:25 p.m. the following day. The return leg, train 01702, leaves Hazrat Nizamuddin on August 30 at 3:45 p.m. and arrives in Jabalpur at 9:30 a.m. on August 31. This train will serve key stations including Katni Murwara, Damoh, Sagar, Veerangana Lakshmibai Jhansi, Gwalior, Agra Cantt, and Mathura. Tickets for AC and sleeper classes are currently open for booking via the IRCTC website and railway counters.
Expanded Festive Connectivity
Beyond the Jabalpur-Delhi route, Indian Railways is launching six special services between August 22 and August 31, 2026, specifically for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This includes four Bareilly-Roorkee-Bareilly services (04321, 04320, 04319, 04322) and two unreserved Haridwar-Lucknow trains (04329, 04330). Other notable routes receiving special attention include Jaipur-Rewari, Phulera-Rewari, Kota-Durgapura, Jaipur-Bandra Terminus, and Hisar-Hadapsar.
Railway authorities are keeping a close watch on real-time travel demand and have indicated that they may authorize further services or add more coaches if necessary.
