Indian Railways is operating an extensive schedule of special train services between August 22 and early September to manage the massive surge in passenger traffic during the Rakshabandhan festival. Travellers can now benefit from additional connectivity across major routes as administrative efforts ramp up to ensure smooth transit during the festive rush. Key details of the special services include train number 04546 operating between Chandigarh and Lucknow, departing on August 27 and arriving in August 28, along with extensive zone-wise deployments by Northern Railway, Western Central Railway, and the Agra Rail Division.
Administrative efforts involve multiple rail divisions to facilitate smoother journeys for commuters.
The Northern Railway has announced 14 special services comprising six local and eight long-distance trains, operational from August 26 through early September. Simultaneously,
the Western Central Railway has mobilized 47 special trains starting from August 23, incorporating unreserved coaches and additional sleeper berths to assist festival travellers. Furthermore,
the Agra Rail Division has confirmed 10 dedicated special services running from August 26 to August 31, with operational readiness confirmed by railway officials including PRO Sanjay Kumar Gautam and Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. Shivam Sharma.
Several high-demand regional corridors have been bolstered with dedicated festival specials.
The New Delhi-Kanpur Central corridor will see the Raksha Bandhan Superfast Special (02456/02455) operate on August 28, 29, and 31. Subedarganj-Shakur Basti connectivity includes
train 04163 departing August 27, return train 04164 on August 28, and a weekly special (02275/02276) running on various dates between August 25 and August 31. Additional services feature
Anand Vihar Terminal-Kanpur Central trains (02458/02457) on August 30, September 1, and September 3, alongside connections linking Jabalpur, Kota, and Veerangana Laxmibai Jhansi to Hazrat Nizamuddin. Additionally, long-term special services connecting Prayagraj-Gandhigram and Subedarganj-Valsad are scheduled throughout September.
Railway authorities, including the GRP and RPF, have been placed on high alert to maintain law and order. Major railway stations are under continuous CCTV surveillance to ensure passenger safety. Passengers are strongly advised to
book tickets in advance, arrive early at stations, and remain vigilant regarding their belongings due to the anticipated heavy rush during the festival days.
