Summer Special Trains: Indian Railways to add 130 extra coaches and launch 1,484 special services for vacation rush
Indian Railways has announced a comprehensive plan to manage the heavy passenger rush during the upcoming summer vacation season. To ensure comfortable travel, the railway authorities are adding temporary extra coaches to existing trains and launching over 1,400 special train services across various high-demand routes. These measures are designed to increase seat availability and reduce the waiting list for passengers traveling between April and July 2026.

North Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Amit Sudarshan confirmed that 130 extra coaches will be temporarily added to 51 pairs of train services starting in April. This move is aimed at managing the sudden surge in travelers during the holiday season. Central Railway has also planned a massive operation with 1,484 special trains, including 749 reserved and 735 unreserved services, covering both intra-state and inter-state routes to facilitate smooth movement.

In addition to these services, Eastern Railway will operate special trains from Kolkata to Mau, Kanpur Central, and New Jalpaiguri. Furthermore, the railway administration is using AI tools to analyze demand and may add more trains if necessary to ensure that the common man can travel without any inconvenience during the summer break.
