Indian Railways announces Tatkal booking schedule and rules for August 26 travel

Indian Railways has issued an important reminder for passengers planning their journeys for August 26 regarding the opening of the Tatkal ticket booking windows. Travellers needing last-minute reservations must note that bookings for August 26 travel open on August 25. For a smooth booking experience, passengers should keep their IRCTC accounts updated and ready before the respective window timings open. Here are the key details you need to know for your upcoming Tatkal reservations:

Tatkal booking for AC classes opens at 10:00 AM on August 25 for classes including 1A, 2A, 3A, CC, EC, and 3E.
Tatkal booking for Non-AC classes begins at 11:00 AM on August 25 covering Sleeper (SL), First Class (FC), and Second Seating (2S).
Authorized railway agents are restricted from booking Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the opening window for each category to ensure fair access for general passengers.
Aadhaar-based OTP authentication is mandatory for online Tatkal bookings to prevent system misuse and unauthorized automated booking scripts.
Tatkal charges are fixed at 10 percent of the basic fare for Second Class and 30 percent for all other classes, adhering to minimum and maximum limits.
Confirmed Tatkal tickets are non-refundable upon voluntary cancellation, though standard refund rules apply to waitlisted and RAC tickets.

Understanding Indian Railways Tatkal Timings

As per the standard operating procedures managed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, Tatkal bookings are permitted strictly one day in advance of the journey date, calculated from the train originating station. Passengers are advised to log into their IRCTC accounts a few minutes prior to the respective opening times to avoid network congestion and secure their berths successfully.
