Northern Railway and Vande Bharat Updates
Effective September 2, 2026, the Northern Railway zone has officially revised the departure timings for four express trains. Additionally, two Vande Bharat Express trains departing from Varanasi Cantt have seen their departure times advanced by 10 minutes. Train number 20888 Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express now departs at 3:55 PM instead of 4:05 PM, and train number 22500 Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express now leaves at 6:10 AM instead of 6:20 AM. These specific Vande Bharat adjustments do not alter routes, stoppages, or operating days.
Western Railway Mumbai Local Changes
Western Railway introduced a new timetable for Mumbai local trains on September 1, 2026. While the total number of services remains at 1,414, the schedule includes six new services, the removal of six low-ridership services, and an increase in AC local services from 145 to 147. Notably, two non-AC services were upgraded to AC status: the 5:28 PM Churchgate-Borivali and the 6:24 PM Borivali-Churchgate trains. To manage peak-hour congestion at Borivali, the temporary halts for the 6:22 PM Churchgate-Virar AC local and the 7:05 PM Churchgate-Virar local were cancelled. Furthermore, a new direct service from Dadar to Dahanu Road now departs at 5:22 PM, arriving at 7:30 PM.
Infrastructure Work and Future Revisions
Infrastructure work at Faridabad station has necessitated a 45-day power and traffic block from September 1 to October 15, 2026. This construction has resulted in the cancellation of nine local, MEMU, and EMU trains, the elimination of temporary halts for 20 significant trains, and the reassignment of platforms for 43 passing trains. Looking ahead, further schedule revisions will impact several services. Starting September 7, 2026, the Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh-Kanpur and Kanpur-Chitrakoot Intercity Express trains will operate on new timings. Additional partial amendments are slated for November 2, 2026, affecting trains such as the Shaheed Express, Saryu-Yamuna Express, and Jansewa Express. General Manager of Eastern Railway, Anil Kumar Jain, stated that passenger trains will now be prioritized over freight movements, while the DRM of Western Railway’s Mumbai Central Division oversaw the transition to the new local train schedule.
