Indian Railways upgrades Bateshwar halt to crossing station for pilgrims

The Ministry of Railways officially approved the conversion of Bateshwar railway halt into a B class crossing station to significantly improve connectivity for pilgrims and tourists. The approval was granted on September 6 2026 following a proposal submitted by the Agra Division of the North Central Railway. The project received a budgetary allocation of 33 crore rupees in April 2026 and is currently underway with a targeted completion date of December 2026. Fatehpur Sikri Member of Parliament Rajkumar Chahar spearheaded the initiative after previously raising the matter in the Lok Sabha. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw granted the final approval citing the site cultural significance as the birthplace of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and a major hub for ancient Shiva temples and the Bateshwar Pashu Mela.

Technical Upgrades and Infrastructure

Technical upgrades for the station include the construction of two 750 meter long loop lines to enable train crossings. The infrastructure development features a new station building with high level platforms and the implementation of electronic interlocking and advanced signaling systems. The project also incorporates specialized facilities to ensure full accessibility for passengers with disabilities. This railway development occurs alongside a separate independent initiative by the Uttar Pradesh government which is executing a 71 crore rupee revitalization project focused on the preservation of local ancient temples and the beautification of nearby river ghats.
