Indore-Dhar Rail Line: CRS Inspection Set for October 2026

The Indore-Dhar rail line is entering its final, most decisive phase as the project moves toward official commissioning. Authorities have confirmed that a critical safety inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is scheduled to take place on October 28 and 29, 2026. This inspection will focus on the Pithampur-Dhar route, representing a massive leap forward in connecting the region.
Crucial Safety Inspection on the Horizon
The upcoming CRS inspection is the final gateway to authorizing regular passenger services on the Pithampur-Dhar section. This segment is a vital piece of the larger 204.76 km Indore-Dahod rail project, which is designed to create a seamless link between Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Once cleared, the line will transform how commuters and goods move across state borders.
The Engineering Marvel: MP's Longest Tunnel
A standout feature of this ambitious project is the Tihi tunnel. Spanning between 2.95 and 2.97 kilometers, it stands as the longest railway tunnel in Madhya Pradesh. To ensure world-class safety and durability, the tunnel was constructed using advanced Austrian Tunneling techniques.
The tunnel is packed with high-tech safety infrastructure, including:
- 140 CCTV cameras for real-time surveillance.
- Specialized ventilation systems to maintain air quality.
- Dedicated escape shafts for emergency evacuations.
- Emergency SOS boxes located throughout the length.
According to Mukesh Kumar, Public Relations Officer for the Ratlam Division, the project is in its final stretch, with engineers currently working to complete the last 202 meters of track within the tunnel.
New Connectivity for Dhar and Pithampur
The 46-kilometer stretch from Tihi to Dhar will bring much-needed rail access to several key areas. For the first time, the Dhar district headquarters will be integrated into the national railway network. This development will provide direct rail access to the massive Pithampur industrial area, boosting both local economy and industrial logistics.
The new route will serve four important stations:
- Pithampur
- Sagore
- Gunawad
- Dhar
Rigorous Safety and Testing Protocols
Safety has been the top priority throughout the construction process. The project has already undergone several rounds of intense testing. On September 22, 2026, Chief Engineer (Construction) Dhiraj Kumar led a comprehensive four-hour trolley inspection. This rigorous check evaluated signaling systems, track stability, bridge integrity, and electrification systems.
Earlier in the year, between March 23 and March 26, 2026, specialized track testing was successfully conducted using a tower wagon to ensure the foundation met all required standards.
A Major Boost to Regional Travel
When the line becomes fully operational, it will do much more than just connect local towns. It is expected
