IRCON Wins ₹862 Crore East Central Railway Contract

In a major boost to its order book, government-owned railway infrastructure giant IRCON International Limited has secured a massive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract valued at ₹862.46 crore. The contract was awarded by the East Central Railway, with the official Letter of Acceptance (LOA) received on October 12, 2026.
Expanding Capacity with Third and Fourth Lines
The project is centered on critical infrastructure development, specifically focusing on the construction of third and fourth railway lines to enhance capacity and efficiency. The work is spread across two vital sections within the Dhanbad and DDU divisions:
- Gomoh-Koderma Section: Spanning railway kilometers 300.15 to 393.68 within the Dhanbad Division.
- Gaya-Son Nagar Section: Spanning railway kilometers 475.200 to 542.075 within the DDU Division.
The extensive scope of work includes the supply of ballast and permanent way materials, as well as track laying, linking, and other associated infrastructure works. To ensure the lines can handle heavy-duty traffic, the new infrastructure is being designed to support a 32.5-tonne axle load. IRCON is expected to complete this entire project within a 365-day timeframe.
Market Reaction and Stock Performance
This significant contract comes at a crucial time for IRCON International. The company has been navigating a difficult market environment, with its shares recording a year-to-date decline of 41% as of October 12, 2026. Currently, the company holds a market capitalization of ₹9,850.02 crore.
However, the announcement of this new project appears to have provided some relief to investors. Following the news, the stock saw a marginal recovery on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), closing at ₹104.73 per share on October 13, 2026. Market analysts are now closely watching to see if this substantial order will act as a catalyst to shift the company's stock trajectory upward.
