January 2 Travel: IRCTC Opens Booking on November 3
Plan your January 2 journey! Indian Railways opens bookings on November 3. Learn about the 60-day ARP and Aadhaar priority access rules.

If you are planning to travel in the new year, it is time to prepare your booking strategy. Indian Railways and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) have officially announced the ticket booking schedule for journeys scheduled for January 2.
To ensure you secure your preferred seats, mark your calendars: bookings for these journeys will officially open on November 3 at 8:00 AM IST. This schedule is part of the ongoing efforts to manage passenger flow through the current Advance Reservation Period (ARP) system.
Understanding the 60-Day ARP Rule
The booking window follows the 60-day Advance Reservation Period (ARP) rule, which has been in effect since November 1, 2024. This rule allows passengers to book general quota tickets up to 60 days in advance of their intended travel date, excluding the date of the journey itself.
By adhering to this 60-day window, the railways aim to provide passengers with ample time to plan their winter travels while maintaining a structured reservation process.
Aadhaar Authentication: Your Key to Priority Access
Under the latest regulations implemented in January 2026, the booking process has become more streamlined for verified users. IRCTC has introduced a priority system that rewards passengers who have completed their Aadhaar authentication.
The benefits of being an Aadhaar-verified user include:
- Priority Booking: Verified users are granted priority access to book general reserved tickets online on the very first day the ARP opens.
- Extended Window: These passengers are eligible to book tickets from 8:00 AM until midnight on the opening day.
- Reduced Restrictions: While non-Aadhaar-verified users may face certain booking restrictions during this initial high-demand period, verified users can navigate the system more smoothly.
Don't Confuse ARP with Tatkal Bookings
It is vital for travelers to distinguish between the Advance Reservation Period and the Tatkal scheme. While the ARP is for long-term planning, Tatkal is intended for immediate, last-minute travel needs and follows a different timeline.
Tatkal bookings open only one day prior to the train's departure from its originating station. The timings for Tatkal are as follows:
- AC Classes: Bookings commence at 10:00 AM.
- Non-AC Classes: Bookings commence at 11:00 AM.
Passengers are strongly advised to verify real-time seat availability and review all updated booking policies through the official IRCTC website or mobile application as their travel dates approach.
