The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has set a remarkable benchmark in digital railway services by processing a record-breaking 2,006,353 train ticket bookings in a single day on September 7, 2026. This massive surge in passenger reservations continued strongly into the following day, with another 1,950,699 tickets confirmed on September 8, 2026. Bookings for Diwali 2026, falling on November 8, officially opened on September 6. Meanwhile, reservations for Chhath Puja falling between November 12 and 15 were conducted from September 13 to September 16.
To ensure fair access and combat fraudulent booking activities, IRCTC has deactivated 30.4 million fake user IDs and marked an additional 63.3 million IDs for re-validation. Furthermore, authorized ticketing agents such as YTSKs and RTSAs face strict booking restrictions during the crucial initial ten-minute window from 8:00 AM to 8:10 AM, ensuring that individual passengers receive top priority during peak Tatkal and general reservation hours.
Despite these extensive system upgrades, the portal experienced minor and intermittent delays on September 11, 2026, due to extreme traffic loads.
