IRCTC Prepares to Launch Upgraded Website for Faster Ticket Bookings
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to roll out a significantly revamped ticket-booking portal, aimed at transforming the passenger experience. While an official launch was initially slated for July 15, 2026, following directives from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, recent reports indicate the rollout might be adjusted to early August to ensure a seamless transition. This upgrade is a central pillar of the 52 structural reforms planned for Indian Railways throughout the year.
Key highlights of the upgraded IRCTC portal include:
- Increased Capacity: The system will handle over 1.5 lakh bookings per minute, up from 32,000.
- Enhanced Processing: The Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will now process 40 lakh enquiries per minute.

- New Features: Seat preferences, fare calendars, and unified seat availability screens.
- Accessibility: Multi-language support and integrated concession services for Divyangjan, students, and patients.
A Smarter Platform for Passengers
Addressing long-standing concerns from students regarding the existing portal—specifically the frustration surrounding CAPTCHA verification—the new system promises a much smoother workflow. By removing unnecessary pop-ups and distracting graphics, the platform aims to provide a clean, efficient booking environment. To ensure the system meets real-world demands, a beta version was showcased to students at the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, on July 10, 2026, to gather critical user feedback before the public release.
Key Features and Accessibility
The modernized website introduces several long-awaited tools. Passengers will now benefit from a fare calendar, allowing them to compare ticket prices across different dates at a glance. Furthermore, the portal will display unified seat availability across all classes on a single screen, saving users from multiple clicks. In a move toward inclusivity, the platform will feature an integrated system for concession bookings, specifically catering to Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), students, and patients, all under one roof. With support for multiple Indian languages, the new IRCTC portal is poised to make rail travel more accessible to millions of passengers across the country.
