Itarsi-Khandwa 3rd & 4th Line Survey Starts: Faster Travel Ahead!
Indian Railways has officially kicked off the survey for a major infrastructure upgrade on the 198.53-kilometer Itarsi-Khandwa section. This project involves the construction of a third and fourth railway line, a move aimed at significantly enhancing capacity and operational efficiency on this critical arterial route.
Faster Speeds and Reduced Travel Time
With an initial approved budget of approximately ₹7449.99 crore, the upgrade is set to revolutionize travel on this stretch. Officials stated that once the project is completed, trains will be able to operate at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour. This speed boost is expected to cut down travel time between Itarsi and Khandwa from three hours to just two hours.
Massive Boost for Long-Distance Trains
The expansion is designed to handle much higher traffic volumes. The new lines are expected to benefit a massive number of commuters, including:
- Over 50 regular and express services.
- More than 100 long-distance trains that traverse the section daily.
This capacity increase will help alleviate the heavy congestion currently experienced on this vital route.
Project Roadmap and Execution
The Bhopal Division of the West Central Railway is currently spearheading the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). This report will be submitted to the Railway Board to move the project into the tendering phase
