Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced a massive ₹7,500 crore Jharkhand railway budget boost, marking a significant leap in infrastructure investment for the state. This allocation is a monumental increase compared to the ₹450 crore provided for Jharkhand just 14 years ago.

This funding is part of an extensive infrastructure push, with approximately ₹75,000 crore worth of railway projects currently being implemented across the state in various stages.

During a virtual inauguration held on October 26, 2026, the Minister launched the Jaipur (Khatipura)-Tatanagar-Santragachi Express. This new service is designed to strengthen connectivity across five major states, including:

  • Rajasthan
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Bihar
  • Jharkhand
  • West Bengal

The new train service is specifically aimed at benefiting migrant workers, traders, and students by providing more reliable travel links between these key regions.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme: 57 Stations to be Redeveloped

Jharkhand is also set for a massive transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. A total of 57 railway stations across the state are undergoing extensive redevelopment to provide modern facilities. Key stations included in this plan are:

  • Tatanagar
  • Govindpur
  • Lohardaga
  • Madhupur
  • Muri

While many are in progress, new station facilities have already been successfully completed in Govindpur, Godda, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, and Muri.

Expanding the Howrah-Mumbai Rail Corridor

To alleviate the heavy pressure on the Howrah-Mumbai rail corridor, the government is planning to lay a fourth rail line. The first phase of this critical expansion will connect Tatanagar to Howrah, ensuring smoother transit for passengers and freight.

Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that these infrastructure advancements, driven by a 'double-engine' government, aim to improve passenger amenities and generate local employment opportunities.
