Jodhpur Railway Station Upgrades: New 500-Passenger Holding Areas

Jodhpur Railway Station upgrades are currently underway as part of a massive transformation to provide travelers with a world-class experience. As part of a nationwide modernization drive, the station is being redeveloped to offer airport-like amenities, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable journey for thousands of passengers.

Amrit Bharat Scheme: A ₹500 Crore Vision

Under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the Ministry of Railways is investing approximately ₹500 crore into upgrading station infrastructure across the country. A key highlight of the Jodhpur redevelopment is the construction of a massive 72-meter wide concourse. This new space is specifically designed to improve passenger circulation and prevent the heavy congestion often seen during peak hours.

New Holding Areas to Ease Festive Crowds

To better manage the intense influx of passengers during peak seasons and major festivals like Diwali and Chhath Puja, the Railway Ministry has approved the creation of dedicated passenger holding areas at 76 major stations. Jodhpur is one of the key locations receiving this facility. These specialized zones are designed to accommodate 500 passengers at a time, allowing for a more organized boarding process and significantly reducing the pressure on station platforms.

Enhanced Safety and Crowd Management

The North Western Railway (NWR) is actively overseeing these infrastructure improvements and implementing strict safety measures to handle the holiday rush. To ensure passenger safety and smooth movement, authorities have introduced several key protocols:

  • Platform Safety: Areas at both ends of platforms 4 and 5 must be kept completely clear to facilitate safe passenger movement.
  • Staff Deployment: Extra personnel have been stationed at entry and exit points, as well as near escalators, to assist travelers.
  • Increased Capacity: To meet the high demand, the NWR is operating special trains and adding extra coaches to existing services.
