Mumbai Railway Update: Jogeshwari Terminus completion rescheduled to 2027 with enhanced capacity

Western Railway is currently developing the Jogeshwari Terminus in Mumbai to streamline rail traffic and improve passenger convenience. The project was initially scheduled for an earlier rollout but has now been rescheduled for completion in 2027. This ₹69 crore infrastructure initiative is designed to transform Jogeshwari into a vital transit hub within the Mumbai suburban and long-distance network.

Why is the Jogeshwari Terminus project delayed?

The construction work for this terminus officially began in 2024. The delay in the timeline is attributed to significant changes in the original design plan. Western Railway decided to expand the scope of the project to better serve future requirements. While the old plan consisted of only 3 platforms, the revised blueprint includes 4 platforms and various modern amenities for passengers. These modifications required additional planning and resource allocation, shifting the final deadline to 2027.

Key features and operational capacity of the new hub

The Jogeshwari Terminus is strategically planned to function as a major satellite station for Mumbai. Its primary goal is to reduce the heavy passenger and train pressure currently experienced at major stations like Dadar, Borivali, and Churchgate. Once operational, the terminus will be equipped to handle heavy traffic and provide a smoother commute for those traveling toward the western suburbs.
