Kaithal Railway Station Expansion: New Platforms for 24-Coach Trains

The Kaithal Railway Station expansion is now officially underway in Haryana, marking a significant step toward modernizing the region's rail infrastructure. With a sanctioned budget of Rs 2.80 crore, the project aims to upgrade facilities to accommodate longer, 24-coach trains.

Modernizing for Longer Trains

A primary objective of this infrastructure upgrade is to address the limitations of the current platform lengths. At present, the platforms at Kaithal measure only 300 meters, which restricts the arrival of longer-distance trains. To resolve this, the platforms will be extended to 550 meters.

This extension is vital for accommodating the 24-coach trains that are increasingly becoming the standard for long-distance rail travel in India, ensuring the station can handle modern rolling stock efficiently.

Enhanced Passenger Safety and Comfort

In addition to the increased length, the project includes critical improvements to platform height to ensure better accessibility and safety for all commuters. The height will be elevated from the existing 1 foot to 1.5 feet.

This modification is intended to:

  • Facilitate easier boarding and alighting for passengers.
  • Reduce the vertical gap between the train and the platform.
  • Improve overall passenger safety and operational efficiency.

Project Oversight and Timeline

The construction work follows a tender process that was conducted in May 2026. The entire project is being overseen by the Railway Board and is expected to be completed within a timeframe of 2.5 to 3 years.

"These upgrades are necessary to meet the requirements of modern long-distance rail travel," emphasized Kaithal Station Master Narendra Sharma and Rail Yatri Kalyan Samiti Chairman Satpal Gupta.
