Kanpur-Kasganj Line Doubling & Kannauj Station Upgrade: GM Issues Strict Warning!
Northeast Railway General Manager Uday Borwankar has conducted a high-level inspection of the Kanpur Anwarganj-Farrukhabad rail section to oversee critical infrastructure expansion and modernization projects. During his visit on September 24, 2026, which included stops at Kannauj, Gursahaiganj, and Farrukhabad stations, the GM focused on the progress of major line doubling and station redevelopment initiatives.
The 244km Kanpur-Kasganj Doubling Project
A central focus of the inspection was the ongoing project to double the railway line from Kanpur to Kasganj. This massive infrastructure undertaking is set to transform regional connectivity by spanning approximately 244 kilometers.
- Primary Goal: To significantly boost train speeds and pave the way for new service operations.
- Financial Support: The Railway Board has sanctioned 5.82 crore specifically for the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
- Major Challenge: The project faces significant logistical hurdles, including the potential impact on more than 200 residential structures along the route.
Kannauj Station: Amrit Bharat Transformation
The General Manager also reviewed the redevelopment of Kannauj station, which is being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The inspection covered the modernization of the station's core infrastructure, including:
- The station concourse and platform areas.
- The construction of new lifts and escalators for passenger ease.
- The installation of new foot overbridges (FOBs).
Strict Warning Over Poor Maintenance and Safety
Despite the progress in construction, the inspection took a stern turn when the GM reviewed the station's circulating area and general upkeep. Borwankar expressed strong dissatisfaction regarding the lack of maintenance and hygiene at the facilities.
The General Manager specifically pointed out the presence of dirt in the parking areas, unhygienic conditions in the toilets, and a broken Over-Head Equipment (OHE) support wire.
Questioning the oversight of the technical department, Borwankar issued direct orders to both officials and the contracting agencies. He demanded immediate improvements in sanitation, high-quality execution of all works, and strict adherence to safety standards. The GM warned that any further delays or failure to rectify these deficiencies would result in the issuance of formal notices.
