Karmabhoomi Express Fire: 8 Trains Diverted in Punjab
Eight trains diverted after a fire broke out in the Karmabhoomi Express near Rajpura. All passengers were safely evacuated with no fatalities reported.

A major Karmabhoomi Express fire incident has disrupted rail operations in Punjab, leading the Indian Railways to divert eight different trains. The fire broke out in the general coaches of the Karmabhoomi Express (Train No. 12508) on Friday, November 6, 2026, causing significant disruption to the scheduled services.
Emergency Evacuation at Rajpura Station
The train, which was en route from Amritsar to New Jalpaiguri, had departed from Sadhugarh station at approximately 12:58 PM. Shortly after its departure, a fire was detected in four of its general coaches. The train was immediately halted at the Rajpura railway station to manage the situation.
Emergency services, including fire departments and relief crews, were swiftly deployed to the scene. Thanks to the rapid response of the authorities, all passengers were safely evacuated from the coaches. Officials have confirmed that there were no fatalities reported during the incident.
Massive Rail Traffic Diversions
The Ambala Division reported that the fire caused severe disruptions to the scheduled rail traffic in the region. To maintain movement and manage the affected tracks, the administration had to implement several diversions:
- Five trains were diverted in the 'down' direction.
- Three trains were diverted in the 'up' direction to alternative routes.
To assist those caught in the disruption, the railway administration is working to provide alternative transportation to ensure affected passengers reach their destinations.
Investigation Into the Cause
A high-level inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the blaze. While the investigation is ongoing, preliminary findings suggest that a short-circuit may have triggered the fire in the general coaches.
