Kavach System Goes Live on 67km Rajasthan Rail Stretch
North Western Railway implements Kavach Automatic Train Protection on a 67km stretch in Rajasthan to enhance rail safety.

The North Western Railway (NWR) has achieved a significant milestone in passenger safety by officially commissioning the Kavach system in Rajasthan. The deployment covers a 67-kilometer rail stretch connecting Kanauta and Bandikui, marking the very first implementation of the 'Standard Kavach' technology within the NWR zone.
Detailed Coverage of the 67km Stretch
The newly commissioned safety infrastructure spans seven critical block sections, ensuring continuous protection for trains moving through this corridor. The operational sections include:
- Kanauta–Bassi
- Bassi–Jhar
- Jhar–Jatwara
- Jatwara–Dausa
- Dausa–Bhankri
- Bhankri–Arniya
- Arniya–Bandikui
Rigorous Testing and Strategic Implementation
This technological advancement was made possible under the strategic leadership and guidance of Pankaj Sharma, the General Manager of North Western Railway. The project was not merely an installation but a comprehensive safety overhaul that involved extensive field trials.
Before the system was declared operational, officials conducted rigorous speed testing at various limits to ensure accuracy. The process culminated in the successful completion of the final Safety Acceptance Trial (SAT), confirming that the system is ready to manage real-time train operations effectively.
The Science Behind Kavach Protection
Kavach is an advanced Automatic Train Protection system specifically designed to prevent catastrophic accidents, such as head-on and rear-end collisions. It acts as a digital fail-safe for locomotive pilots.
The system operates through a sophisticated combination of:
- Electronic Equipment: Integrated into the locomotives and signaling systems.
- Radio Towers: Providing continuous communication across the stretch.
- RFID Sensors: Track-based sensors that relay precise location data.
If a locomotive pilot fails to adhere to signal aspects or exceeds prescribed speed restrictions, the Kavach system will automatically apply the brakes, bringing the train to a safe halt and preventing potential disasters.
